What's the liklihood of
meeting a celebrity?
You may have asked yourself this question.
What is a celebrity?
Someone who is well known and considered famous because of attention shed on them from the media.
What's an influencer?
Influencers tend to provide information and knowledge about their specific niche to the public.
The idea of being a celebrity or an influencer seem to exist in the same realm. You are popular by demand and you share every experience with the world. From some perspectives, you exist for other people.
By taking one sentence from over 50 different celebrity/influencer encounters, I have collected information about your run of the mill fan, follower, supporter, devotee, zealot.
While recalling their stories about meeting people they've never met before but claim to love, there were a couple prominent connections between each contact.
One.
Making sure to rate the experience, just as you would at your local Mcdonalds.
Two.
Including a variety of lengthy pieces of context for their story and copious amounts of insignificant extra details leading up to the encounter.
Three.
Admitting utter astonishment that a famous person may actually talk and function like a normal
human being
Four.
Emphasizing the randomness and unexpectedness of the encounter.
But how random was this encounter?
If we use Instagram as an archive for famous people, we can create an idea of the likelihood of you knowing or running into one of these people.
A microinfluencer is considered to have between 10,000-50,000 followers.
60.9% of Instagram has 10,000 followers or more.
Roughly 1 billion people use Instagram (905 million if you take away all 95 million fake accounts)
60.9% of 905 million is 551,145,000 people.
There’s around 7.8 billion people in the world
This means that 7.06596154% of the population is actually an influencer/celebrity. 7 out of every one hundred people.
This statistic might not be completely accurate. It could also mean that maybe the "randomness" of meeting your idol isn't all that random.
Maybe they're sitting right next to you at this very moment.
Maybe they're going to be under your bed tonight when you go to sleep.
